Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA)

Organisational restructuring and impact on information architectures
As a consequence of organisational re-structuring, the Civil Aviation Safety Authority needed to revise its information structures and upgrade it electronic records management system, TRIM. User permissions are assigned across business units. Security settings must match for users to have access to the right information. CASA has a complex security and user permissions structure that must align with its organisational structure. Recordkeeping Innovation conducted extensive analysis of users and information structures, making changes to business classification, retention authorities and mapping old to new. We provided a detailed implementation and migration plan for the new software.
This project shows both the benefits and the underlying complexity of maintaining an agency’s information architecture when organisational re-structures and machinery of government changes occur. Changing security settings and user permissions need to be carefully administered to ensure that information remains secure, and that users have access to the right records that they need to maintain business as usual.
