Records disposal strategy
TAHO is responsible for reviewing and authorising the disposal authorities for Tasmanian Government agencies. With limited staff resources and pressure to deliver its review and approval in a timely way, Recordkeeping Innovation devised an innovative, collaborative approach to developing and authorising disposal. The approach involved drawing on existing resources in other jurisdictions, taking a risk based approach and consulting operational staff to acquire their specialist knowledge quickly and effectively.
This strategic approach to disposal policy delivered benefits such as:
- the duration and resources needed to develop the disposal authority were known,
- business cases and project schedules could be developed,
- the allocation of responsibility was clearly defined, and
- a collaborative approach resulted in better staff engagement and interaction.
Staff were willing to commit to a project where outcomes were clear and benefits achievable.
