Recordkeeping Innovation have undertaken a number of key strategic planning and design projects for Archives NZ.
Recordkeeping Innovation facilitated and documented data models to enable the appropriate import and structuring of data received from the transfer/ingest process in the developing National Digital Archive, an OAIS compliant repository. This work focussed at item and representation level, a degree of granularity generally not addressed by archival documentation systems, but which is now enabled through digital recordkeeping. The project built from the Archives NZ Technical Specifications for Electronic Recordkeeping Metadata, mandated within the NZ public sector.
Digitisation Standard
With the shift todigital recordkeeping systems, many public office and local authority organisations in New Zealand are digitising original paper records. As expert technical consultants, Recordkeeping Innovation in conjunction with Archives New Zealand, drafted the New Zealand Government digitisation standard. This Standard establishes minimum requirements for maintaining public records in digital format only, where the original paper, or other non-digital source record, has been copied electronically by digitising or other means. It sets out the requirements for digitisation and disposal of source records, and outlines best practice recommendations for digitisation processes.
NZ Recordkeeping Metadata Standard
The Recordkeeping Metadata Standard sets out a framework for creating, managing and using recordkeeping metadata. The standard outlines the minimum metadata elements required to manage electronic records within the New Zealand government context. The ultimate purpose of the standard is to ensure that public and local authority records are managed in accordance with the Public Records Act (PRA). Metadata guarantee that records are authentic, reliable and usable over time. The standard aims to meet the current demand for recordkeeping metadata element sets created by the widespread implementation of Electronic Document and Records Management Systems (EDRMS) throughout government.
