Archives planning

Managing and planning archival services requires sound knowledge of archival principles and best practice standards.

We have worked extensively with New Zealand Archives on developing their digital records standards and prototypes for the ingestion of digital objects. We aim to make digital records self documenting, ensuring that records have adequate metadata to preserve their context and ensure the authenticity and accessibility of records over time.

Our work in developing metadata standards ensures that digital records systems are designed to capture, keep and preserve digital archives.

As qualified archivists Recordkeeping Innovation have many years experience in planning and implementing archives management. Our work includes:

  • Designing governance and reporting frameworks
  • Performance management
  • Scoping and project management
  • Project management and implementation
  • Appraisal and disposal, sentencing
  • Developing disposal guidelines
  • Arrangement, description to professional standards, listing
  • Designing archival standards for electronic records
  • Digitisation and preservation by conversion to electronic formats
  • Transfer of custody and storage design
  • Access control
  • Documentation and retrieval of digital objects
  • Descriptive standards development
