Development of Recordkeeping Standards

Standards for records, EDMS systems and archives are needed for interoperability and the transfer of digital records between systems and organisations

Recordkeeping Innovation has substantial experience in standards development and negotiation. We have written two well received standards for Archives New Zealand, the Digitisation Standard which has been adopted as both an Australian and international standard and Recordkeeping Metadata (which has influenced the development of the recent State Records NSW Standard on Digital Recordkeeping). Each of these projects required substantial community consultation undertaken by participation in forums, publication on listservs, formal submissions and resolution of comments.

Our consultants have worked with Standards Australia Committees in the development of industry best practice standards.

• Barbara Reed has been primary author for ISO 15489, Records Management, ISO 23081, Metadata for Records and Digitisation for Records. She also leads the Australian delegation to the international standards meetings.
• Cathy Ashton chairs the Standards Australia Committee on Records Classification.

These roles involve extensive negotiation and discussion on different methods, traditions and approaches to records work.
