Records Management Fundamentals (2 Days)

This revised course covers the fundamental principles and practices of records management. It provides participants with a basic understanding of the activities involved in managing paper and electronic records.

Course Outcomes

By the end of this course participants should be able to:

  • Understand the issues and processes involved in records creation and capture
  • Identify the control measures applied to records so they can be located, retrieved and used
  • List the tools and technologies used to manage records.
  • Describe best practice for the storage of State records.
  • Understand the concepts of appraisal and disposal under the State Records Act, 1998.
  • Identify the key legislation and considerations when providing access to records.

Learner Profile

Designed for people new to records management including staff of records management units and people assigned responsibility for records management. It is suitable for use as a part of an induction program.
